Fantastic road trip today around the eastern shore of Kauai up to the famously gorgeous northern shore where craggy peaks covered with vegetation are the backdrop to a shoreline with points and bays, both breathtakingly beautiful.

The point Kilauea lighthouse is the 3rd most visited site on Kawaii island. View of the small bay on the east side of the point was enchanted today - mostly sunny, filled with birds, mostly the Red-Footed Booby or 'A bird. Watching their flight, soaring on the updrafts, deftly landing, nestbuilding was mesmerizing. The area around the lighthouse itself was closed for renovation, but the visuals, sounds of waves from the lookout point were unforgettable.

We innocently stopped for ice cream at a shopping center near Princeville. Here we met "Uncle Mikey". He's been on the island more than 30 years, has his own business making dried fruits. He was FULL of stories and ideas. He also manned the tourist info kiosk. We innocently asked about the helicopter rides. He answered all our questions about the differences between the "doors on" and "doors off" rides. We opted to blow the doors right off - our ride is scheduled for Monday April 7! My
best uncle of all time Ray encouraged us to take a helicopter ride - thanks Ray!
